Britney suicide attempt

February 22, 2007

Hey Grit

I know we have been following the antics of Britney over the last few months, but this latest report must be the most worrying for her family and friends as well as the girl herself. It seems that, after leaving the rehab clinic, and following on from a row with her ex over the custody of her two children, Britney tried to commit suicide by walking in front of traffic.

In my view, the time has come for someone to take a serious view of this situation. It is obvious from the laxity of the rehab centre that they are more interested in the dollar and promotion impact of having a “headline grabbing” star in their clinic than actually doing the young girl any good. At the same time everything she does appears on the media within minutes, which suggests that someone, somewhere, is feeding them with information. Thus it must appear to Britney that there is no way out of this circus and that she stands a good chance of losing the two people she loves most, her children.

Granted Britney has bought a lot of the media attention onto herself by her antics. But there comes a time when they have to sit back and consider the psychological impact of their constant hounding of her. Maybe the time has come for them to back off and leave the girl to sort out her relationship and other problems out in private. And maybe the time has come for her friends, family and other hangers-on to take a step back and concentrate on helping Britney to recover from whatever demons are haunting her.

We have already had one celebrity suicide in the last few weeks with Anna Nicole Smith. Let us not allow the press and our own insatiable curiosity lead to another one.

Sex five miles high

February 18, 2007

Hey Grit

Have you read the article about the air stewardess who was sacked for having sex in the toilet of the aircraft whilst it was in flight. What makes this incidence more newsworthy is that the male participant was Ralph Fiennes the actor. The stewardess in question, Liza Robertson, at first denied the allegation, but in a story released in the Daily Mail today, has conceded that it did happen and that she was a willing particpant. In addition, the lady further reveals that the fling continued in the stars hotel room that night, but ended after that one night.

What I find amazing about the report itself is that the reporter suggests that the stewardess should be seen as a victim because she lost her job as a result of the incident. It also suggests that the actor has “dumped” her and took advantage of a “vulnerable” young woman. There are several issues here. The stewardess knew full well that she was breaking her employment terms and therefore could have expected nothing less than the sack. Ms Robertson would also have been aware that an incident that started in this manner could hardly be viewed as the basis of meaningful and long-term relationship.

Raking up Ms Robertson’s past life in support of this image is hardly sound journalism, nor can it be used an excuse for the lady’s behaviour. Add to this the fact that the stewardess has been involved with a similar weekend fling with a passenger on a previous flight with Quantas, and the fact that no doubt the paper has paid her handsomely for her story, and I fail to see how the reporter can conceivably promote the notion that Ms Robertson is a “victim.”

Similarly, the comment that somehow Ralph Fiennes has not helped and is somehow a villan of the piece is absurb. He did not force her to act in this manner, neither did he force her to spend the night with him at the hotel. If anything, the lady herself is the one doing the using. She has blatantly used the celebrity status of Fiennes to make financial gain out of the incident.

Ms Robertson has no-one to blame for the result of this incident but herself. Her actions have proven that she did not respect her position nor the fact that they were both consenting adults and that she willingly entered into this incident.

David Beckham in demand

February 15, 2007

Hi Grit

I know that football (soccer) is not the most popular sport over there, but I doubt if many have missed the fact that one of the greatest English football players, David Beckham, has moved across the pond to play for a Los Angeles club. Well, despite the fact that, for some, this seemed like a move to cover the twilight of his career, the opposite is happening.

In the US he has wasted no time in raising his and the game’s profile. In an attempt to wow the ladies and increase his exposure Beckham has launched a fragrance brand. No doubt the promoters are relying on the ladies to persuade their menfolk to change sport allegiance.

Here, in the UK, Beckham has not been forgotten. Despite being dumped by the new English manager, who indicated that Beckham would never play for his country again, this has not gone down well with the fans. The recent run of abysmal English national football results has re-lit the Beckham flame. In a recent poll for a national newspaper  88% of those who took part wants him to return to the International line-up. He could yet achieve his ambition of reaching 100 international appearances for his country.

Whatever else is said about Beckham, one has to admire the way he has managed his “brand” image and, despite any setbacks has always managed to come out on top. In addition, unlike a number of celebrities, there have been few incidents that have tarnished his “nice guy” image. Some feat in a world of temptation.

Stupid liberals!

February 11, 2007

Hi Brit,

I was reading this, Hybrid-Only Car Service Launches in San Francisco, and it hit me as to just how stupid liberals are, as a general rule.  The key point in this is that, according to the story, the idea is to make rich people flying into Nanny Pelosi’s home town feel better by taking “green” transportation around town, after dumping untold tons of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere while flying in a fuel waisting jet.  Then I read the details, and was shocked.  Keep in mind that the article is tainted with the usual liberal bias, even though it does throw in a tiny hit about the jet travel thing, but it also includes, “with a fleet of leather-seated Priuses.”  I’m sure that the reporter, not knowing squat about Global Warming, didn’t think twice about this.  However, the secondary part of the Climate Change Conspiracy, the one that really gets the radical liberals frothing at the mouth over its potential for bringing about social change, is the implication of cow farts in heating up the globe.  That would, of course, be the methane content in the massive flatulence produced by our bovine food supply, which is an excuse for left wing groups to insist everyone turn vegetarian.  Thus the paradoxical nature of a “green” car with leather seats.  Oh, well, I am assuming that the leather was produced from cow hide and not Jews, but that is most likely a safe assumption.

How long can you hold your breath?

February 9, 2007

Hi Brit,

I just read this, Congress eyes legislation to fight climate change, and immediately asked myself “how long can I hold my breath?”  After all, each of us expel the Evil Greenhouse Gas CO2 with each breath, and, now that Nanny Pelosi has the issue firmly clinched in her dentures, I expect that soon we will be faced with a Breath Tax, to encourage us to slow down our individual contributions to Global Warming.  By my quick, and not necessarily totally accurate, calculations, we in the US can offset her jet set life style if we each take 30 fewer breaths per day.  Of course, this increased interest in decreasing our breath rates will have at least one benefit, that being, getting some of the joggers off the road.

Although, considering that:

The White House said Snow was referring to figures from the International Energy Agency that from 2000 to 2004, U.S. carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel combustion grew by 1.7 percent, while in the European Union such emissions grew by 5 percent.  From: U.S. cuts emissions better than Europe: White House.

It would seem obvious to any rational person, thus excluding most Democrats I admit, that we are on the correct path to achieve the liberal agenda of reducing CO2 emissions without further Government meddling.  With liberals in control, of course, they will ignore the facts, raise taxes and piddle around in our lives until they manage to, not only, increase Greenhouse Gas Emissions, but, also, screw up our economy.  Typical.

The true face of liberalism, another chapter.

February 8, 2007

Hi Brit,

Let us imagine that a conservative candidate for President discovered that, in the past, two of his/her staffers had written evil nasty things about gays or Hispanics.  What do you think the lot of those people would be?  Terminated immediately with great fanfare and many apologies for ever being associated with such horrible people, is the correct answer.  However, if a liberal candidate for President has the same situation, with the exception that the writing was anti-Catholic hate speech, Edwards Won’t Fire Bloggers For Catholic Church Criticisms, you can plainly see that the attitude is completely different.  Obviously, liberals are perfectly OK with hating certain groups, as long as they are listed in the Big Book of Political Correctness under Evil Groups Approved to be Detested.  Unfortunately for Edwards, he happens to fall into one of those categories, the Evil Rich.  Of course, the liberal press are unlikely to point that out, or even mention the linked story.  Typical.

Is there gayhab in Paris’ future?

February 6, 2007

Hi Brit,

Remember back when Isaiah Washington had that moment of homophobia?  Do you also recall that Paris Hilton committed a similar politically incorrect indiscretion?  Well, it seemed for a while that she was going to miss the storm of criticism that forced Isaiah into gayhab, but she’s not out of the woods just yet: Gay Leaders Urge Paris to Apologize.  Now she has GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) on her ass, demanding an apology.  Better do something fast, Paris, before your image is tarnished.

Can you say “buying votes?”

February 4, 2007

Hi Brit,

While y’all have almost completely sunk into the warm, smothering embrace of the Nanny State, we still have a few vestiges of freedom and self determination left, such as worrying about our own health care.  That is, until John Edwards gets elected, and this evil rich guy isn’t afraid to spend other people’s money buying votes: Edwards: raise taxes for healthcare.  It’ll be interesting to see how many votes he can purchase with a promised $180 BILLION of looted cash that will, supposedly, come from higher taxes on his fellow fabulously rich country men and women.  The targets of this bribe are the 43 MILLION Americans who are without health insurance.  Mr. money bags doesn’t mention if he is going to weed out those who could afford coverage, but decide not to do so.  Of course, if we get into details, it seems that our trial lawyer champion of the people is playing tricky games with the meaning of words.  “Rich” for example, appears to mean anyone making more than $200,000 per year.  His rather expensive plan also calls for an attack on our economy through adding more regulations and costs on business.

Not to be outdone, I have a health care plan of my own.  I say we confiscate, ah, that is tax at 100%, Edward’s new super luxury estate, and put that $6,000,000 in a fund to buy health care for poor people.  Just the interest on that should cover decent insurance for 50 to 100 people.  Be a sport John, use your own money to buy votes.
