Look before you leap.

February 5, 2007

Hi Brit,

One of my favorite sayings is, “look before you leap.”  In this instance, the Environmental do-gooders in Europe should have taken this advice, Seeing Red: Palm Oil Biodiesel.  As it turns out, the rush to move to alternative “green” fuels in the EU, has caused massive damage to the ecosystem in Indonesia and Malaysia.  Next time, read the label.

By the way, I’ve added this blog to our reading list.

Hillary slips, admits she’s a whore for socialism!

February 2, 2007

Hi Brit,

While I have never had any doubt that Hillary Clinton is, at heart, a socialist, she finally admitted it to the world today, Hillary on Oil Profits.  In this short clip from her speech, she proclaims that, as President, she would take the profits from the oil companies and invest it in research programs.  I’ll leave the rant about alternative energy and its general state of being a pipe dream until later.  However, I must take a moment and explain to the Candidate From Hell that the race is for President.  If she wants to be Dictator, she should go to Cuba or Venezuela.  Even though I hope daily that Bill finally gets tired of her and adds her to the long list of dead Friends Of Bill, this admission of greed and corruption having a prominent place in her personal philosophy, once again demonstrates the stomach turning ugliness that is the true face of the Democratic Party and liberalism in general.

European community

January 31, 2007

Hey Grit

At present the EU has a few little problems with regard to militant regimes, of which Iran and North Korea are but two. I shall probably get my head bitten off by someone for this, but here goes.

The EU now consists of 25 countries. The intention in the minds of the Eurocrats, as I have said before, it to create a single European state. A part of that is also the ambition to be considered a superpower of the magnitude that Russia was and the US is. Don’t ask me why this is the intention, I don’t know, but all the evidence points to this.

The difficulties the the EU is the mixture of countries that it comprises of. Almost all of them, at some time in the past, have been bashing each other. Not many centuries ago the UK and fighting with Spain and, less than a century ago we were all bashing it out with Germany. Even more recently, some the countries that were admitted this year were at each others throats internally. Therefore you have quite a volitile mix.

This brings me to my main point. Firstly, the mix described above means that the EU in any area of conflict a) cannot often decide whose side we want to be on and b) cannot be relied upon to stay on the side that we originally vote for in the first place, especially if any decision made is needed to last for more than six months.  Secondly, in its bid for superpower status the EU in its wisdom (or lack thereof) often believe that the way to assert this is to object automatically with anything that the other powers might agree to. Hence the reason it seldom votes to agree with the US, as is the case here.

In my view the EU is now showing one of the drawbacks of globalisation (amongst many) at nations level. Namely, that mixing cultures and political structurs in this way is a receipe for disaster. I am not saying that every EU member state should agree with everything the US does, far from it but, that is the whole point. Each country should be allowed to make up its own mind on the matter.

Of course, the other effect of this process is that it makes the UN even more impotent than it already is (and viagra will not solve the problem), because whilst individual member countries can vote one way in the UN, only to have the powers that be in the EU to say “we don’t like that.”

The case in point, Iran, of course is a classic example of these problems. Yes we have business and energy interests in Iran, but then visa versa is true as well, so it is not as fearful as the EU make it. My view is that if the EU or any other country disagrees with the US over this issue it should be honest and say so, not hide behind excuses, which is what they are doing.

It seems that no one in the EU administration is capable of listening to reason at the moment as they are too focused on building ivory towers or, even worse, a modern day tower of babel.

The last Global Warming skeptic?

January 31, 2007

Hi Brit,

I have good news!  Even our most liberal news paper, perhaps the most liberal serious paper in the world, the New York Times, is not totally convinced about Global Warming and Climate Change: World Scientists Near Consensus on Warming!  While the rest of the story is full of the usual liberal, Global Warming as religion tripe, there is one bit which is very instructive:

Scientists involved in writing or reviewing the report say it is nearly certain to conclude that there is at least a 90 percent chance that human-caused emissions are the main factor in warming since 1950. The report is the fourth since 1990 from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which is overseen by the United Nations.

“It is nearly certain that there is at least a 90% chance,” that, to me, says they don’t know!  You should also note that, instead of the usual 100 year comparison, they’ve shifted to a 50 year time span.  That’s because, it’s obvious that the temperature spike in the first half of the last century wasn’t due to human activity.  They can’t really explain its cause, but, quietly buried in the reports of the liberal media, is the admission that we didn’t cause it.  It only took 20 years for that bit of information to come to semi-light.  Of course, to any rational mind, that would bring up the question of trust to the “climate scientists” findings about the most recent temperature increase.  Unfortunately, there is grant money, political power, and business interests at stake, so the truth will have to wait.

Another question a rational person might ask, is what has consensus got to do with science?  While I did suffer through a public school education, I was always taught that science dealt with fact, not opinion.  It is a disturbing surprise to me that science has devolved into a popularity contest.  If this is going to be the trend in “science,” it seems to me that, to make it fair, we should put it to our elected representative to decide the position science will bow to.  That would at least, save us a few billion on research funding.

Bat out of hell, bite me world!

January 29, 2007

Hi Brit,

I was in a bit of a nostalgic mood this afternoon, so I put “Bat Out of Hell” on and cranked it up.  Man, what perfect timing!  Global Warming, extremest Muslim terrorists, liberals, Jane Fonda, Britney’s beaver, Big Brother racism, Hillary Clinton, the United Nations, President Bush, AlGore, Iraq, Iran, nuclear bombs, blood in the streets, and the end of the world; screw it all!  So, take a few minutes, put the CD on, crank it up and sing along!

Bat Out Of Hell lyrics

The sirens are screaming and the fires are howling

Way down in the valley tonight
There’s a man in the shadows with a gun in his eye
And a blade shining oh so bright
There’s evil in the air and there’s thunder in the sky
And a killer’s on the bloodshot streets
And down in the tunnel where the deadly are rising
Oh I swear I saw a young boy
Down in the gutter
He was starting to foam in the heat
Oh Baby you’re the only thing in this whole world
that’s pure and good and right
And wherever you are and wherever you go
There’s always gonna be some light
But i gotta get out
I gotta break it out now
Before the final crack of dawn
So we gotta make the most of our one night together
When it’s over you know
We’ll both be so alone
Like a bat out of hell
I’ll be gone when the morning comes
When the night is over
Like a bat out of hell I’ll be gone gone gone
Like a bat out of hell I’ll be gone when the morning comes
But when the day is done
And the sun goes down
And the moonlight’s shining through

Then like a sinner before the gates of heaven

I’ll come crawling on back to you
I’m gonna hit the highway like a battering ram

On a silver black phantom bike

When the metal is hot and the engine is hungry

And we’re all about to see the light

Nothing ever grows in this rotten old hole

Everything is stunted and lost

And nothing really rocks

And nothing really rolls

And nothing’s ever worth the cost

And I know that I’m damned if I never get out

And maybe I’m damned if I do

But with every other beat I got left in my heart

You know I’d rather be damned with you

If I gotta be damned you know I wanna be damned

Dancing through the night with you

If I gotta be damned you know I wanna be damned

Gotta be damned you know I wanna be damned

If Gotta be damned you know I wanna be damned

Dancing through the night

Dancing through the night

Dancing through the night with you
Oh Baby you’re the only thing in this whole world

that’s pure and good and right

And wherever you are and wherever you go

There’s always gonna be some light

But I gotta get out

I gotta break it out now

Before the final crack of dawn

So we gotta make the most of our one night together

When it’s over you know

We’ll both be so alone

Like a bat out of hell

I’ll be gone when the morning comes

When the night is over

Like a bat out of hell I’ll be gone gone gone

Like a bat out of hell I’ll be gone when the morning comes

But when the day is done

And the sun goes down

And the moonlight’s shining through

Then like a sinner before the gates of heaven

I’ll come crawling on back to you

Then like a sinner before the gates of heaven

I’ll come crawling on back to you

I can see myself tearing up the road

Faster than any other boy has ever gone

And my skin is raw but my soul is ripe

And no one’s gonna stop me now

I gotta make my escape

But I can’t stop thinking of you

And I never see the sudden curve until it’s way too late

I never see the sudden curve till it’s way too late

Then I’m dying on the bottom of a pit in the blazing sun

Torn and twisted at the foot of a burning bike

And I think somebody somewhere is tolling a bell

And the last thing I see is my heart

Still beating

Breaking out of my body

And flying away

Like a bat out of hell

Then I’m dying at the bottom of a pit in the blazing sun

Torn and twisted at the foot of a burning bike

And I think somebody somewhere must be tolling a bell

And the last thing I see is my heart

Still beating

Still beating

Breaking out of my body and flying away

Like a bat out of hell

Thanks Jim; thanks Meat!  Still love it; still a fan.

Ethanol, evil, evil ethanol

January 28, 2007

Hi Brit,

As I’m sure you know, our environmentalist wackos have pushed our political wackos into pushing, by law, the use of ethanol combined with gasoline as an “environmentally friendly” and “anti Global Warming” fuel.  As I always figured, being a farmer and a heavy consumer of distilled spirits, growing crops to turn into combustible fuel is stupid, The new gold rush: how farmers are set to fuel America’s future.  Besides the inefficiency involved with producing this “green” fuel, it also, obviously, reduces the available food supply.  The first signs of the damage this will do are in Mexico, A Culinary and Cultural Staple in Crisis.  You should note that, even if they switch from using corn as the base for ethanol production, there is only so much good farming land, but an ever increasing number of mouths to feed.  The only acres left to plant rest under forests so …

Have your city and burn it too!

January 24, 2007

Hi Brit,

Guess what, there is violence in Beirut!  Why is that news, you might wonder?  I’ll tell you.  If you glance through this article, Clash Pits Hezbollah Against Rule in Lebanon, you’ll find that there is a reasonable chance for Hezbollah, a horribly brutal and violent terrorist group, to gain control of Lebanon.  Of course, they would immediately convert it to a safe haven for terrorists from around the world, like Al-Queda, and use it as a base from which to attack Israel, repeatedly, until they finally win and slaughter all the Jews.  Of course, if they do win, my guess is that the result will be even worse, because someone will cap a nuke in their ass.  It doesn’t really matter who will do it, but there are plenty of contenders.

Israel, an obvious first choice, but they probably won’t jump to be first, although they may toss around a couple of follow up strikes just to be sure.  Considering how many countries, like France, are just itching to see their bloody demise, they can’t take the chance.

USA, might happen.  Bush has nothing to loose, the military loves him enough to maintain secrecy, and we can probably do it with little chance of getting caught.

Russia, my bet.  Keep in mind that Russia is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, and they make a lot of money selling arms to the Arabs.  The reason the Arabs need weapons is to continue the low level conflict with Israel.  Putin can’t afford to let one side or the other win.  Boom!

Syria, another good bet.  Face it, there is massive evidence that Saddam either had a nuke or was close to getting one.  Lots and lots of stuff made the journey to Syria just before Iraq fell.  If they have a nuke, what better time to use it?  Not only do they have a great shot at blaming the incident on Israel, but they can keep Hezbollah in check, before they become a dominate force in the area and threaten the Powers That Be in Syria.

Saudi Arabia, my second place bet.  Come on, you know the Saudis must have picked up a few big bombs by now.  It’s not like they can’t afford them.  Add to that, their need to keep the attention of their citizens focused on the Evil Jews, instead of how oppressed they are by the Monarchy.  Then mix in a bit of realization that, besides a desire to kill Americans and Jews, most of the terrorist groups want to take control of the entire Middle East and return things to how they were during the Persian Empire.  Oh, with themselves in charge of course, which wouldn’t set well with the current dictators of SA.  Sprinkle a little control of Mecca on top, and the Saudi Royal Family has an excellent reason not to allow Hezbollah to gain too much power.  That reason being, keeping their heads attached to their necks.

I suggest we all spend some time cheering for the current Government of Lebanon.

Facts! We don’t need no stinking facts!

January 13, 2007

Hi Brit,

I hate to say it, but it’s too late to worry about the facts in the Global Warming debate.  Politicians all around have stuck their fingers in the wind of public opinion, and are spreading their sails to ride the hot gale coming from the mouths of the environmentalist wacko movement back into office.  Check this one out: EU plans attack on car emissions.  While I expect a certain amount of insanity from socialists, like attempting to destroy Europe’s auto industry, the surprising naughty bit is down at the bottom.

Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas, “…people should start talking about climate change as a war.  It could lead to the death of millions of people, and it could transform the world economy into a war economy, where every sector was involved in the fight against climate change.”

Democrats solve energy problems!

January 12, 2007

Hi Brit,

Good news!  Our liberal party, the Democrats, have solved our energy crisis.  How, one must be tempted to ask, can they do this in less than a week of legislating?  They’ve fallen back on their tried and true tactics, raise taxes!  Democrats unveil energy package  Simple as that, and the problem is solved.  Assuming that President Bush wouldn’t veto any version of this that lands on his desk, not only will this tax cut Gulf oil and natural gas production, which nasty products lead to Global Warming, but, with convoluted evil genius, it will work to prevent prices on those products from ever falling!  Plus, this will teach Big Oil two important lessons, don’t screw with Nanny Pelosi and start making wind mills because the liberals are going to run you out of business.  Oh, it’s so nice to not have that to worry about any more.

UK – EU oil supply problems

January 9, 2007

Hi Brit,

Not to worry for the moment, at least for jolly old England.  It looks like the current problem is only in Germany and Poland:

Doesn’t Britain get its oil from the North Sea? At least there was a Jethro Tull song about that, which is usually a trustworthy source of information.  However, if you just need a worry fix, consider what happened last time Germany and Russia had a dispute in that region.  What was it that comes after II…

The politics of global warming

December 19, 2006

Hi Brit,

You’ll like this installment of political smack down, just for the British connection if nothing else.

British Lord Stings Senators Rockefeller and Snowe: ‘Uphold Free Speech or Resign’

It would seem that our Senators, an office, by the way, which often comes with a god complex, stuck their noses into somewhere they didn’t belong, and got them verbally tweaked.  First of all, it’s unusual for Senators from both sides of the isle to cooperate on something as controversial as Global Warming.  Secondly, it’s unusual for a Republican to be nasty to Big Oil.  Lastly, it’s unusual, as I understand it, for British Royalty to be as uppity as Lord Monckton was in his beautifully crafted reply to our ludicrous legislators.

The ending sums it up nicely, “I challenge you to withdraw or resign because your letter is the latest in what appears to be an internationally-coordinated series of maladroit and malevolent attempts to silence the voices of scientists and others who have sound grounds, rooted firmly in the peer- reviewed scientific literature, to question what you would have us believe is the unanimous agreement of scientists worldwide that global warming will lead to what you excitedly but unjustifiably call disastrous and calamitous consequences.”

I have to give this round of political smack down to your fellow Brit.

Pelosi has saved us all!

December 7, 2006

Hi Brit,

Good news!  It would seem that our new Speakerlady of the House has already solved America’s energy problems.  In her recent press release:

Pelosi: Our Coasts Need Lasting Protection from Oil and Gas Drilling

Not only is she going to protect our coast line, where delicate wildlife and rich liberals hang out, from the danger of oil spills, but, despite not letting us tap new oil deposits, she has promised that “Democrats intend to achieve energy independence within 10 years.”

Well hot dang and fire up the band!  All our worries are over!  I am so relieved.  Here I’ve been fretting over how we’re going to keep the cars running and the plastic baubles shooting off the production lines without new oil supplies, and all without reason.  Pelosi and the Democrats have already solved our future troubles, and didn’t even bother using the news of their brilliant plan as a campaign issue.  I am most impressed.

Although, now that I read back through that article, I can’t find any details on how we are going to achieve energy Independence.  Brit, after taking a moment to ponder this, you’ll need to excuse me while I go talk to a man about buying a horse.
