Shilpa, Jade, Danielle and Jo – a week later

February 8, 2007

Hi Grit

Just thought you would want an how the people from the big brother house have got on since leaving just over a week ago.

Shilpa Shetty

Yesterday Shilpa Shetty went to Westminster to meet Tony Blair and other Members of Parliament. The crowds were so large that the police moved the following press conference for fears of security issues. Following this she travelled to Leicester, which has a large Asian community, where the crowds were even larger, forcing the police to not allow Shipla to get out of the car for the arranged Radio interview.

Jade

Jade’s planned trip to India has been called off for the present, on advice of doctors who say that she still needs treatment to deal with the psychological affect of her recent stay in the house. Mind you she got into more trouble for taking a ride with her three year old son sitting on the top of the petrol tank of a quad bike. Jade’s agent has also confirmed that she has no work as all previous engagements have been cancelled.

Danielle

Danielle, after being interviewed by police, has decided to take a holiday in the sun with her parents. Apparently, she has still not met with her boyfriend, Teddy Sherringham, an English football player, so that does not look very promising. In addition to all the modelling contracts Danielle has lost, she is also being sued for £100,000 by the Miss GB organisers for bringing the pageant into disrepute by appearing topless in a magazine and having an affair with one of the judges – you’ve guessed it, Teddy Sherringham.

Jo O’Meara

Like Jade, Jo has spent the week getting psychiatric help. Out of the three, Jo is the one who has kept the lowest profile, partially due to death threats that have been made about her.

Other news is that the police are planning on interviewing seven of the big brother housemates, so there is more to come on the potential for criminal charges.

They say a week is a long time in politics. In entertainment it is proving to be even longer when one considers the dramatic effect that it has had on these four ladies lives.

Danielle interviewed by police

February 2, 2007

danielle.jpgHi Grit

The incident in the Big Brother house is continuing to rumble on. Yesterday Danielle was interviewed, in her lawyers office in London, by police as they continue their investigation in the “racism” and “bullying” incident. The meeting took three hours, with her management saying that she was happy to cooperate with them.

Shilpa and Jo and Royalty

January 31, 2007

Hi Grit

Just when you thought it was all over, so it starts again. Yes, you are correct. There are rumours that Shilpa is set to meet the Queen and Tony Blair (providing the latter keeps himself out of prison). In addition, a significant number of offers have come her way, including book deals, West End appearences and many others.

On the other side of the coin Jo, one of the three accused of bullying has won the support of Sarah Ferguson, ex-wife of Prince Andrew, who rightly thinks that it is time to draw a line under this situation. Jo has also suffered over the weekend as her manager died of a heart attack.

Time to draw the curtains and let all of these people get on with their lives.

Royals need publicity too.

January 31, 2007

Hi Brit,

More and more, I believe you were correct in your analysis of the Big Brother situation, and that it may well have been manipulated.  However, you may not have probed deeply enough into who was behind the conspiracy:

BB QUEEN SHILPA SET TO RUB SHOULDERS WITH ROYALTY

MOTHERLY FERGIE STANDS UP FOR BB’S JO O’MEARA

It would seem, that your Royal Family has a stake in this mess as well.  Where will it end?  More importantly, when will it end?

Jade, Shilpa and Big Brother – the media aftermath

January 30, 2007

Hi Grit

As expected, the story of the Big Brother house and it’s inmates continues in the media, with screaming headlines from all the papers each trying to lead with a different contestant. The Mirror has Shilpa’s story, which is still the most balanced of the lot, as she tries to defuse the racism aspect.

The Sun reveals that Jade Goody, the main instigator, has booked into a rehab clinic on the verge of a breakdown, as her world is falling apart. Whatever one’s views on her are, let’s hope at least she can find some peace and come to terms with everything, if only for her family.

The Daily Star led with Danielle’s story, which had little to add and seemed to confirm what Shilpa thought of her, that she was stupid. The Mirror again carried the story about Jo O’Meara refusing to apologise for her part in the incident.

Have you noticed anything strange about all this? The most startling fact to me is that none of the male contestants of the show appear to made or been ask to make any comment about the events of the past three weeks.

Bat out of hell, bite me world!

January 29, 2007

Hi Brit,

I was in a bit of a nostalgic mood this afternoon, so I put “Bat Out of Hell” on and cranked it up.  Man, what perfect timing!  Global Warming, extremest Muslim terrorists, liberals, Jane Fonda, Britney’s beaver, Big Brother racism, Hillary Clinton, the United Nations, President Bush, AlGore, Iraq, Iran, nuclear bombs, blood in the streets, and the end of the world; screw it all!  So, take a few minutes, put the CD on, crank it up and sing along!

Bat Out Of Hell lyrics

The sirens are screaming and the fires are howling

Way down in the valley tonight
There’s a man in the shadows with a gun in his eye
And a blade shining oh so bright
There’s evil in the air and there’s thunder in the sky
And a killer’s on the bloodshot streets
And down in the tunnel where the deadly are rising
Oh I swear I saw a young boy
Down in the gutter
He was starting to foam in the heat
Oh Baby you’re the only thing in this whole world
that’s pure and good and right
And wherever you are and wherever you go
There’s always gonna be some light
But i gotta get out
I gotta break it out now
Before the final crack of dawn
So we gotta make the most of our one night together
When it’s over you know
We’ll both be so alone
Like a bat out of hell
I’ll be gone when the morning comes
When the night is over
Like a bat out of hell I’ll be gone gone gone
Like a bat out of hell I’ll be gone when the morning comes
But when the day is done
And the sun goes down
And the moonlight’s shining through

Then like a sinner before the gates of heaven

I’ll come crawling on back to you
I’m gonna hit the highway like a battering ram

On a silver black phantom bike

When the metal is hot and the engine is hungry

And we’re all about to see the light

Nothing ever grows in this rotten old hole

Everything is stunted and lost

And nothing really rocks

And nothing really rolls

And nothing’s ever worth the cost

And I know that I’m damned if I never get out

And maybe I’m damned if I do

But with every other beat I got left in my heart

You know I’d rather be damned with you

If I gotta be damned you know I wanna be damned

Dancing through the night with you

If I gotta be damned you know I wanna be damned

Gotta be damned you know I wanna be damned

If Gotta be damned you know I wanna be damned

Dancing through the night

Dancing through the night

Dancing through the night with you
Oh Baby you’re the only thing in this whole world

that’s pure and good and right

And wherever you are and wherever you go

There’s always gonna be some light

But I gotta get out

I gotta break it out now

Before the final crack of dawn

So we gotta make the most of our one night together

When it’s over you know

We’ll both be so alone

Like a bat out of hell

I’ll be gone when the morning comes

When the night is over

Like a bat out of hell I’ll be gone gone gone

Like a bat out of hell I’ll be gone when the morning comes

But when the day is done

And the sun goes down

And the moonlight’s shining through

Then like a sinner before the gates of heaven

I’ll come crawling on back to you

Then like a sinner before the gates of heaven

I’ll come crawling on back to you

I can see myself tearing up the road

Faster than any other boy has ever gone

And my skin is raw but my soul is ripe

And no one’s gonna stop me now

I gotta make my escape

But I can’t stop thinking of you

And I never see the sudden curve until it’s way too late

I never see the sudden curve till it’s way too late

Then I’m dying on the bottom of a pit in the blazing sun

Torn and twisted at the foot of a burning bike

And I think somebody somewhere is tolling a bell

And the last thing I see is my heart

Still beating

Breaking out of my body

And flying away

Like a bat out of hell

Then I’m dying at the bottom of a pit in the blazing sun

Torn and twisted at the foot of a burning bike

And I think somebody somewhere must be tolling a bell

And the last thing I see is my heart

Still beating

Still beating

Breaking out of my body and flying away

Like a bat out of hell

Thanks Jim; thanks Meat!  Still love it; still a fan.

Shilpa Shetty wins

January 28, 2007

Hi Grit

It is over. A few moments ago Shilpa Shetty, the 31 year old Indian Actress walked out of the house for the final time, as the WINNER.  Shilpa, the target of racial abuse and bullying during her stay in the house, collects a £100,000 prize, collected 63% of the vote, beating Jermaine Jackson into second, and Dirk Benedict into third place. None of the three finalists were British.

Even in the post winning interview, Shilpa was magnanimous in victory, asking people to forget what had happened and thanking everyone in the UK for the opportunity she had been given. This despite having to sit through some awful comments that were made about her behind her back in the house by others.

Whether this will be the end of the incident remains to be seen, but at least Shilpa has acted like a lady and a deserving winner. Let’s hope that the media and everyone else takes her lead and lets the incident alone from now on, although I doubt with the English media that this will happen.

Anyway, congratulations to the Lady and to your two American contestants who did so well. America should be rightfully proud of the way that Jermaine and Dirk conducted themselves during this show. It is a shame some of the British contestants could not have acted more like the three finanlists.

Jo, Jade, Danielle and Big Brother

January 27, 2007

Hi Grit

I am afraid that the Big Brother show will go on for the next three days at least. Take today for example. I found Jade Goody on the front of no less that a dozen magazines and 5 newspapers. As for Jo, she is one of the gang of three who were involved with the racism and bullying and has faced a public reaction similar to Jade. It is expected that the same will be the fate of Danielle, who will leave the house on Sunday.

Did I hear you say that you don’t know who Jo is? Surely you remember the band “Steps” from the UK 🙂 a few years ago. It was a boy/girl combo band that failed to achieve much success outside of our shores. Jo was one of the singers, only her vocabulary and elocution appears to have deterioated dramatically from then.

Yes it is true that we have laws over here, which can be exercised by the police if they feel that the words and actions promoted race hatred. Actually, we do not have that book of political correctness and the fact that you might have relatives of a different national origin can not be used as an excuse for the comments that were made in this case, should the police wish to pursue the matter.  In this case they have already contacted Jade and her mother and asked them to attend interviews, and intend to do the same with Jo and Danielle as soon as they are free from the big brother house. So it appears that they are taking the incident very seriously and all three will have a serious problem, on top of the dislike from the public and their career damage.

Of course the real crazy part is that the TV production company was in a position to have not allowed this to become public so yes, as you say Grit, they deserve a kick somewhere. They could have bleeped or shut the viewing down during the situation, instead of which they allowed it to run live and then repeated it on at least two occasions.

One two more days to go through my friend.

the Brit

Will it never end?

January 27, 2007

Hi Brit,

While I like you personally, I’m thinking of writing my Congressmen and demanding they declare war on England.  The reason, why to stop your Big Brother race problems being all over the Internet!  Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!  Now they’re going on about some singer, Jo O’Meara, that I’ve never heard of, or heard for that matter, because she imitated Shilpa Shetty’s voice?  Who cares?  This article, Big Brother star Jo denies racism, points out that Jo has Indian relatives, which, according to the Big Book of Political Correctness, when combined with any semblance of an attempt at humor allows some mocking of accents.  Don’t y’all keep up with these things?

Besides, the lass obviously has no idea what she’s doing most of the time.  For evidence I offer this quote, “We was doing that with her and she was finding that really funny.”  Add to this that she has, apparently, posed nude, and I think we can drop the racism stuff.  Of course, that article also mentions that: Before Friday’s show, a police spokeswoman said: “An investigation into allegations of racist behavior inside the Celebrity Big Brother house is continuing.”  Now, I know that y’all do things a bit differently over there, but I had no idea you had criminalized racist speech.  No wonder your jails are full.  Goodness, if we did that over here, it would be easier to move all the people who HAVEN’T said anything racist into one small state and declare the rest of the country a prison.

So, Brit my friend, I would consider it a great personal favor it you would stroll over to the Big Brother set and slap who ever is in charge silly.

Shilpa Shetty to win

January 27, 2007

shilpa_brother126.gifHey Grit

You will remember the Big Brother racist incident. Well it seems that whatever happens the victim, Shilpa Shetty will come out a winner. Irrespective of whether she wins the show or not, although the bookies her see that as the result, it has done her career the world of good.

As the press in India and other areas have reported, Shilpa is already being targetted for a number of contracts upon her leaving the show, including being host to a million dollar poker production. It also seems that during her time in the show she has built up quite a following outside of her native India.

It seems that maintaining her dignity, unlike some of the other contestants, has proven to be the right move for Shilpa.

Shilpa Shetty – could cost bookies £2 million

January 25, 2007

Hi Grit

The Big Brother house row has taken a new twist today in terms of the amount it is costing those involved. However, this time it the UK bookies (betting organisations) that are crying. All survey indications are that the Indian contestant subjected to bullying and racist comments, Shilpa Shetty, is odds on favourite to win the series. If she does, the bookies will lose in excess of £2 million.

I may be accused of being cynical and uncaring but, considering the amount of money these organisations extract from the gambling public ever day, do I really care?

Jade Goody goes Indian

January 24, 2007

Hi Grit

I know I said I would not post any more about Jade, but I thought you ought to know that the lady, accused of racism, is ready to pack her bags and take a visit to India. It would appear that she has been invited to visit the county to see for herself how the culture works over there.

It will be interesting to see how this trip works out for Jade. She is either going to find out exactly what it is like to be on the receiving end of racist attacks or, hopefully, the Indian people will accept her countless apologies and take the opportunity of mending a few bridges.

Whatever you views upon the lady, one has to give her credit for accepting her errors and making the attempt to redress the situation and make amends.

Jade Goody and racism – a puppet of Channel 4?

January 22, 2007

Hi Grit

I promise you this will be my last post on the Jade Goody saga. However, over the last day or so I have been given cause to wonder whether this whole episode has been manipulated. Let us take a step back from all the media hysteria and look at it from a business viewpoint for a moment, and see how the participants might have gained from it.

ENDEMOL – PRODUCTION COMPANY

It is rumoured that the company, an organisation that specialises in TV reality and games shows, may be seeking a new owner. Prior to the incident that led to all of the media hype, the ratings for the show were not that brilliant. Viewer ratings were languishing at the high 2 million plus mark. Subsequent to the incident these ratings rose to nearly 6 million. So you have a show which is considered to be one of the most high profile in your portfolio, but ratings have been slipping over the past few series. What do you do? Add some controversy! Not only does that more than double your ratings but, by fortune or design (As Gordon Brown is visiting the nation of the victim at the time), puts it squarely into the political as well as the public arena.  Suddenly, the show becomes a world-wide phenomena, carried on every conceivable media there is. How much does that add to your corporations sales value?

Okay, they lost a £3 million sponsorship contract, but with an extra 2 million plus people attracted and a significant proportion of those voting, thus bringing addition income from mobile and landline calls, they probably made double that in the course of the last week in terms of phone call revenue.

CHANNEL 4 – THE BROADCASTING MEDIA

With the globalisation of TV media, Channel 4, a terrestrial based media company, is paying catch-up with the four main competitors, which are BBC1, ITV and Channel Five. How does it steal a march on them in the ratings, and thus advertising war? Introduce controversy. The result is that viewers switch channels to find out what all the fuss is about? What does that say to advertisers? This is the place they want to be promoting their products.

THE PARTICIPANTS

Jane Goody – before coming into the show Jane Goody was worth in excess of £8 million. Some of her products have been withdrawn from retail shelves as a result of her actions, and other fees have been forfeited. But has she really lost? Firstly, she has been quick to apologise without making any attempt to defend her actions, which will help to restore some of her credibility. Secondly, the Indian government have invited her to experience the Indian culture first hand and, thirdly, her fame has been spread far and wide across the globe. Whether you love them or hate them, celebrities make news and, as a result, attract income from it.

SHILPA SHETTY – THE VICTIM

I don’t condone what happened to Shilpa, far from it. However, prior to this incident Shilpa was relatively unknown outside of the Bollywood environment. As a result of this incident, she has achieved an extended international fame. If those who work for her are clever enough, they could capitalise on this situation.

DANIELLE LLOYD – ONE OF THE GANG

Out of all those concerned, Danielle is the one who is likely to suffer the most. Having lost three contracts and her boyfriend, it will take some work for her to recover from this situation, although it is not impossible.

All of this makes one pose the question, was this a hoped for result when the producers picked the celebrities? It makes you wonder.

the Brit

Jade said what?

January 21, 2007

Hi Brit,

OK, finally I found out what was said, and I am confused.  The big deal, international incident, careers on the rocks, and all that is over, Jade Goody calls Shilpa ‘Poppadom’ ?  I’m sorry, but y’all don’t know what racism is!  If that’s the worst this Shilpa person has ever been called, she should thank her luck stars.  As to everyone else who is up in arms about this, get a life.  And here I thought people in the South were touchy.

Jade Goody admits Big Brother offences – Danielle Lloyd a loser too.

January 21, 2007

jade.jpgHi Grit

As expected, the Jade Goody “Big Brother” story has continued this weekend. In an interview with the News of the world, the evicted housemate has admitted that her actions were both bullying and racist. She has apologised again for them and stated that she would be seeking to put the matter right.

The cost of this incident to the two main protagonists is continuing to climb. Jade Goody is not being paid for the interview, and the fee of £50,000 plus the £50,000 she was paid to enter the house is being given to charities chosen by Shilpa. Danielle Lloyd, on top of a lucrative £100,000 plus contract has lost two more modelling contracts. Not only that, her boyfriend Teddy Sherringham, a famous footballer, has dumped her, wanting her out of his life and mansion.

It has been a really bad week for these two.

Speaking of Jade Goody…

January 20, 2007

Hi Brit,

With all the interest about Jade Goody, I’ve been doing a bit of research.  I found this, Jade Goody strips naked (WARNING: this link points to a site with adult content,) and I do believe it explains a lot!  Are you sure she was voted out for the racial thing and not this visual assault?

Jade Goody headline news

January 20, 2007

Hi Grit

Despite her eviction from the Big Brother house last night, and her subsequent comment that she was “disguested” with her behaviour in the racism/bullying incident, Jade Goody continues to hog a fair proportion of the newspaper headlines this morning, as journalists and others try to analyse what went on.

Some are suggesting that the production company engineered the incident, with more than sixty percent saying that they should have stepped in to stop it. The Telegraph carries no less than four articles associated with the show, including one that suggests the row was fired by class hatred rather than racism. The Sun carries six articles about the subject, including a story about an invitation to India for Goody. The story has even appeared in the Financial Times. Of course, the story featured on every news show last night and, as mentioned earlier, Gordon Brown is in on the act again, hinting that the Indian lady should win.

It has certainly cost Jade Goody a lot of her previously gained affection from the public, and loss of income for her and Danielle, one of the other housemates, but on the other side of the coin she has achieved international recognition.

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, Jade can do to recover from this situation.

Smoking detectives

January 19, 2007

Hi Grit

I have been meaning to respond to your post about smoking  Nazi’s, but needed to check whether I could use the word 🙂

For those who wish to ban smoking in cars over there, they should take a leaf or two out of the UK laws. In a unique application the police can charge parents who are smoking in their cars with mistreatment of the child, or of course failing in their parental duties. With regard to people simply smoking in the car, they can of course be charged with driving without due care. Of course the latter route can also be used for eating, sneezing, singing, changing CD’s and talking to your partner. One can of course be fined and/or jailed for these offences.

Of course this does help those who wish to break the habit of smoking, excess consumption of food, parenting, spreading infectious diseases, vocal abuse and noise excess. The only difficulty, at least for the ladies, is that it will threaten their record of speaking 8,000 words a day.

I assume that we are heading to a situation where unless you have had a recent haircut, manicure, shave and are wearing a shirt and tie, you will not be able to drive at all. By the way, one cannot escape the long eye of the law or blame it on someone else, now that we have face recognition camera traps.
