Justice delayed is?

January 24, 2007

Hi Brit,

We seem to have a spurt in old crimes finally being brought to justice:

Ex-Deputy Arrested in 1964 Race Case

8 Arrests in 1971 Police Killing in S.F.

While I am a big fan of law and order, I also must question how any case that is over 30 years old can have a fair hearing.  Really, since I can barely recall last week, how credible can witnesses be decades later?  As I recall, our Constitution guaranties us the right to a fair and SPEEDY trial.  Somehow, I get the feeling that our Founding Fathers would not consider a delay of 30 years as falling into the “speedy” category.  It’s sad to see the foundations of our country slowly crumble.
