Arnold terminates California health care

Hi Brit,

Does it ever seem to you that power drives people crazy?  I often feel that way, and here’s a good example of it: Gov. seeks sweeping health system reforms.  Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is registered as a Republican, although he doesn’t seem to have read the party platform, wants everyone in California to have health insurance, while at the same time bringing down health care costs.  To do this, he wants to tax businesses, doctors, and hospitals.  Right off the top, it seems obvious that taxing doctors and hospitals isn’t going to lower health care costs, assuming, of course, that one wants doctors and hospitals to stay in California.  Which, may well be at the heart of Arnold’s plan.  After all, if no health care is available, health care costs drop to zero, and the Government gets to keep the tax on business to waste on other projects.  Perhaps the Governator is taking the right approach after all.  Somehow though, I expect to pay for part of this somewhere down the line.

Why tax businesses, doctors, and hospitals….Just tax the INSURANCE COMPANIES raking in the profits every year……I pay about 1000 a month for health coverage!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Liz,

You should send that one to the Governator, http://gov.ca.gov/. On the other hand your insurance rates seem a bit high, as in, you might want to shop around, maybe check out those medical savings accounts. We carry coverage for three and it’s not nearly that high, although, that could be some sort of regional variation.

However, taxing the insurance companies won’t work either, since they’d pass the costs along to us. Really, there are only two options to reduce health care costs: increase the efficiency of the system and/or reduce the quality.

I did but no response yet…

yeah you are right they would pass it on to us(why they make so much money they do not need to), sad thing is that they have some of the most Powerful lobbyists in congress…they work both the dem and rep. in congress so it does not matter who is in power they have buddies on both sides 😦 how in the world did these health insurance companies become so powerful

    Hi Liz,

Actually, I’m not certain how profitable health insurance companies are. It sounds like a good topic for a post. As to power, follow the money. Very few people can afford to pay out of pocket for health care, so, as the cost of care went up, insurance became a necessity. Thus, insurance companies are flush with money, with which they buy influence.
